Turning on the PC by just turning on the wall switch?
How do we set our PCs so that when we switch on the wall switch, it will boot automatically? We will not need to press the power button on the casing of the PC. For that matter, how can we set the network PCs so that when we turn on the switch on the wall, all of them will boot automatically?
I understand we may need some sort of Wake Up LAN, but how do we do that? Do you know of any website that shows how this can be done?
Booting from a wall switch?
BAD IDEA.
Reason: You may be tempted to use the switch to turn off the computers as well.
Although changing the settings in your computer’s BIOS will allow it to boot once power has been restored, your computer has no way of knowing when you’ll shut the power off.
When you shut down a computer, the operating system has to “put away” important files that it’s using and then turn the computer off. If you just kill the power, you don’t give the operating system time to put away those files and you may end up with a corrupt operating system installation and/or hard drive, which likely means you’ll have to reinstall your operating system and format the drive, destroying ALL of your data.
Don’t use a wall switch to boot all your computers at once. How many computers do you have? Pressing 3 or 4 buttons doesn’t take that much energy.
Sorry if I sounded rude, but really…using a wall switch to turn on computers…not good idea…
