We’ve all been there, relentlessly pressing the buttons on our TV remote, willing the batteries to show sign of life. Even you have some batteries, they’re hardly ever the right kind, are they? You just end up taking the batteries from another appliance and on and on it goes. You could just buy a battery charger or learn how to make a solar powered battery charger and make use of free solar power!
Making your own solar and wind power for less than $200
Don’t get me wrong, this is a sure improvement on spending a lot of money on expensive batteries. But it could be better. With a battery charger you still have to pay for the battery charger, the Rechargeable Batteries and the electric to charge them. Why not build your own instead and use solar power to charge your batteries?
How difficult is it? It may sound complicated but it is actually a very simple device. Using a few materials you can make one with relative ease and very little cost. Once you have made it there is no cost involved as it will run on solar power with little maintenance costs.
So, how do you make one? You have two options. You can buy kits with instructions which show you how to build your own Solar Battery charger. Most of these require some soldering but this is easy to get the hang of. You can buy a small kit like this from the Internet for as little as $11.95.
Making your own solar and wind power for less than $200
However, it is possible to buy most of the materials. The basic materials you need to build one are; a piece of copper strip board, a small Solar Panel, some wire, batteries and a Battery Holder. You will also need a Blocking Diode which prevents energy from being wasted.
The next thing you need to consider is the tools you may need to buy. As mentioned you might need to buy a soldering iron but they are pretty cheap and easy to locate. If you are interested in building your own solar battery charger or even your own solar panel, it is probably also a good idea to buy a multi-meter which gives you information about the voltage.
Today there are loads of web sites with information and step by step instructions which explain how to make one. Some are great with detailed instructions which show you how to build your own charger and some that are not so great. But if you do your research it won’t be long before you have learned how to one and you won’t ever have to buy batteries again!
