Misunderstanding of Laptop Battery Maintainance (Part 1)
Laptop battery is definitely important to a notebook computer, because it is him who provides the mobility and portability. However, compared to Mobile Phone, usb phoneand other electronic products, its life span is much less. Suppose you mobile phone can only last for 10 hours, you may consider it damaged while the standby time is great for laptop batteries. It is even said that the battery and keyboard are slowest-growing accessories in laptop.
It is reported that Intel has taken part in a new research of battery technologies. Mooly Eden, CMO of Intel translation stage, said that just like the relationship between teenagers and sex, everyone is discussing the improvement of laptop battery but nothing have done.
It is always a hot topic of laptop battery maintainance, but actually there’re many misunderstandings exist. The primary contributor is the transformation from Ni-mh batteries to li-ion ones. Many users have no idea of the differences between them so that many habits are still stayed on the stage of Ni-mh batteries.
Misunderstanding: Laptop battery should be charged for more than 12 hours at the first use.
Actually, the method can only be applied to Ni-mh batteries. It is because some early laptop batteries are the Ni-mh batteries with no protection circuit in it. However, as to the intelligent li-ion batteries, such as hp 402018 001, it doesn’t work at all. Under the control of protection circuit, after fully charged, the current automatically break even if it is more than 120 hours. Generally speaking, even the slowest charging laptop can reach the full by less than 8 hours. Anymore charging is useless.
Furthermore, before charging, the new laptop should be fully discharged. As a matter of fact, both the Ni-mh batteries and the li-ion batteries are with memory effect. It is told by manufacturers that the effect has been eliminated, which is not quite right. If not, it won’t be so good as you expected.
